MICHIGAN OPPORTUNITY
One fortunate young Australian passionate about the beef cattle industry will be off to the USA as the winner of the 2010 Semex Genetics Michigan State University (MSU) Scholarship. GENOMICS HOT UP CONFERENCE
The efficacy of using DNA profiles to describe the profit generating traits in beef cattle is a hot topic in the seedstock industry. Can the results be verified and will these tests replace EBVs as the industry’s main genetic evaluation tool? The American Angus Association has introduced genomic enhanced EPDs. Two internationally renowned authorities on the subject will put forward their arguments at the Angus Australia National Conference on April 27 in Albury, NSW. More….

The exciting program for the Angus Conference at Albury, NSW, on Tuesday April 27 has been finalized and is available on the website. BLACKOUT
Don’t try contacting the Angus office in Armidale, NSW, next Tuesday, March 9, as nothing will happen. Major electrical work in the district will mean there is no power until 2 pm.

BULLS IN DEMAND
The 2010 bull selling season is well under way with close to 1000 Angus bulls sold at auction in Western Australia, South Australia and Victoria. This is close to 60% of all bulls sold so far this year. The current average price is running a bit behind what it was at the same time last year so this could be the time to get out there and buy some Angus bulls with Breedplan figures. The upcoming Angus bull sales in Victoria and southern New South Wales are all listed in the Coming Events on the website and most have online catalogues. The results of bull sales in the 10 major breeds also appear on the website.

J&C and KO CLEAN UP CANBERRA
J&C Cheyenne C13 owned by the Halliday family from Wildes Meadow, NSW, was senior and grand champion female and supreme Angus exhibit at the Canberra Royal. KO 2V1 Rainmaker D6 exhibited by Theo Onisforou from Kangaloon, NSW, was senior and grand champion bull. Both these champions will compete at the NSW Beef Spectacular at Dubbo on Saturday. Photos….

BIG SYDNEY ROLL UP
A total of 164 Angus from four states (NSW, Vic, Qld and WA) will parade at the 2010 Sydney Royal with judging at 9 am on Sunday April 11. The total beef cattle entry is 1470. The NSW Angus state committee as usual will host a lunch for exhibitors and spectators in the judging ring. The National Angus Youth Judging Finals will follow. The NSW state committee AGM is at 2:30 pm on Saturday April 10. The 10 Angus school steers in the 40 strong school steer section will be judged at 10:30 am on Wednesday April 7 and the 55 Angus open steers in a field of 215 steers will be judged at 8 am on Thursday April 8.
