If you are an aspiring young cattle judge aged between 21 and 30 years, this is an opportunity not to be missed. The winner of the National Judging Competition will receive a scholarship to travel to the USA and attend the University of Illinois. Whilst in the USA, the recipient will experience a whirlwind of events, from university classes, judging competition and sightseeing around the USA whenever they can.
Develop the recipient’s personal skills Strengthen relationships between the Australian and USA beef industries.
Eligibility
Applicants must be aged between 21 and 30 years of age (age at 1st January 2021)
Applicants must be members of Angus Youth and/or Angus Australia (membership form may be completed with application)
Please note that an affiliation with the Angus breed or previous university study is not a requirement to apply. However previous Judging experience is highly recommended.
How to Apply
To apply for this scholarship applicants must compete in the Angus Youth National Judging Competition.
Competition Details
Interview – The interview will be conducted by a panel which can be made up of the over judge, past winners, Angus Australia representatives & sponsors. Dress should be appropriate for an interview.
Each interview will go for 20 minutes.
Live cattle classes – During the live cattle classes’ competitors will be required to place the class, answer a set of questions & also give oral reasons. Depending on availability, bulls, females & steers will be judged. Scenarios & EBVS may be provided.
Judging will be conducted under the guidance of a selected over judge or judges.
Beef industry quiz – This quiz will be conducted at the conclusion of your interview.
The person with the highest overall score will be announced the winner of the Angus Youth National Judging Competition & will be awarded the University of Illinois Scholarship.
Conditions of winning the Scholarship
The scholarship cannot be deferred, it must be taken up in the spring semester (Commencing in January)
Whilst at University of Illinois the recipient must keep a blog or Facebook Page. This is to be updated at least weekly.
Upon returning from the scholarship the recipient must make themselves available to give a presentation at an assigned industry event.
Within 2 weeks of returning a full written trip report must be provided to the Angus Australia Foundation.
*Please note: If a large number of applications are received a shortlisting process will be implemented. This will be conducted through the Judging panel. *All travel will be the responsibility of the participant.
