Introducing the new Angus Sire Benchmarking Consultative Committee
Angus Australia is pleased to announce the composition of the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program (ASBP) Consultative Committee for the next two years.
Existing committee members, Stephen Chase – Waitara Angus, Rodger Pryce – Brooklana Angus, Richard Puddicombe – ‘Burindi’ Paraway Pastoral, Keith Howe – Rangers Valley and Hamish Chandler – Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA), will be joined by new committee members, Peta Bradley – MLA, Will Schmidt – Rangers Valley, Lindsay Wolrige – Esslemont Angus and Gary Wilkinson – Kyah Park Angus. Stephen Chase will remain as chairperson of the committee.
David Murray (Kilburnie Angus) and Brad Cavanagh (Hardhat Angus) have retired from the committee and are thanked for their valued contributions to this important R&D initiative undertaken by Angus Australia.
The purpose of the ASBP Consultative Committee is to provide guidance to Angus Australia in developing policies, strategies and plans relating to the Angus Sire Benchmarking Program (ASBP). This includes reviewing the overall operations and progression of the ASBP and considering related project proposals.
Christian Duff, Strategic Projects Manager looks forward to engaging with the committee over the next two years to monitor the progress of the ASBP and to develop related strategies and policies for Board consideration.
“The committee has broad ranging experience related to livestock research and development programs, and importantly deep knowledge of Angus genetics within the beef supply chain.” Mr Duff said.

Stephen Chase – Cow Herd Representative, Waitara Angus – Chair
Stephen is owner and operator of Waitara Angus near Trangie, NSW. Waitara has an Angus commercial breeding herd of 350 cows, the majority of which are included in the ASBP each year.
Lindsay Wolridge – Bull Owner Representative – Esslemont Angus
Lindsay is the owner of Esslemont Angus, located at Busselton, WA. Esslemont genetics have been included across several cohorts of the ASBP. Lindsay is also a past Director of Angus Australia and past-chair of the Breed Development committee.
Rodger Pryce – Bull Owner Representative- Brooklana Angus
Rodger is the owner of Brooklana Angus, located near Coffs Harbour, New South Wales. He has regularly nominated bulls for the ASBP.
Gary Wilkinson – Bull Owner Representative – Kyah Park Angus
Gary recently retired from full time work in construction and now wants to devote his time to growing Kyah Park Angus. Based at Blampied in the Victorian Central Highlands, Kyah Park has been operational for 13 years, however it restarted it’s stud 3 years ago with a donor cow and several embryo’s followed up by the purchase of 10 HBR heifers. Kyah Park has 1 bull involved in the ASBP and another nominated.
Lachie Wilson – Bull Owner Representative- Murdeduke Angus
Lachie is the Principal and Farm Manager of Murdeduke Angus near Winchelsea, Victoria. Murdeduke has a total of 4 bulls that have been involved in the ASBP.
Richard Puddicombe – Cow Herd Representative, Parwaway Pastoral Company
Richard is the Manager of the Paraway Pastoral property Burindi Station, located near Barraba NSW. Paraway Pastoral has a large commercial Angus herd and includes approximately 600 Angus females in the ASBP program each year.
Keith Howe – Feedlot Representative, Rangers Valley Feedlot
Keith is the Chief Executive Officer of Rangers Valley Cattle Station, Glen Innes, NSW. Rangers Valley are an important supply chain collaborator for the ASBP.
Will Schmidt – Feedlot Representative, Rangers Valley
Will is responsible for Livestock Procurement at Rangers Valley Cattle Station, Glen Innes, NSW.
Peta Bradley – Meat and Livestock Australia
Peta is Livestock Genetics Project Manager with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) based in Armidale. Prior to this she had been working with the Sheep Genetics team as MERINOSELECT Development Officer then Senior Development Officer.
Hamish Chandler – Meat and Livestock Australia
Hamish is the program Manager for genetics research, development and innovation with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) based in Armidale. He started with MLA as the LAMBPLAN Project Officer in 2009 and went on to become the Sheep Genetics Manager in 2013 managing Australia’s national genetic evaluation for sheep.
James Laurie (ex-officio)
James Laurie of Knowla livestock, Moppy, NSW, is a Director of Angus Australia, and as chair of the Strategic projects committee, is an ex-officio representative on this committee.
Sam White, (ex-officio)
Sam White of Bald Blair Angus, Guyra, NSW, is the President of Angus Australia, and as chair of the Board, is an ex-officio representative on this committee.
Peter Parnell (ex-officio)
Peter is the Chief Executive Officer of Angus Australia and an ex-officio representative of this committee.
Christian Duff (ex-officio)
Angus Australia Strategic Projects Manager. Christian is the Strategic Projects Manager for Angus Australia and an ex-officio representative of this committee. He oversees all operations and collaborations involved with the ASBP.
Nick Butcher (ex-officio)
Angus Australia ASBP Project Officer. Nick is the ASBP Project Officer for Angus Australia and an ex-officio representative of this committee. He coordinates all field operations for the ASBP.
