The Angus breed has once again shown itself to be the champions of eating quality, with an Angus carcase winning the Champion Virtual Taste Test Award for the highest MSA Index at the Sydney Royal Easter Show, along with a number of other carcase awards.
The Champion Virtual Taste Test steer was bred by Sunny Point Pastoral Oberon NSW and exhibited by the Scots All Saints College. With a live weight of 399kg, the carcase measured 14mm on rib and rump fat, had an EMA of 77cm sq and an MSA Index of 61.06.
A 385kg Angus steer bred by BW and MM Brooker, Rouchel NSW and exhibited by Scone High School took out the award for Champion School Carcase. The carcase was also awarded a 1st in the Virtual Taste Test Competition reaching an MSA Index of 57.57 and a Silver Medal.
The Reserve Champion School Carcase, was a 478kg Angus steer bred by Knowla Livestock and exhibited by Pymble Ladies College, that also won 1st for Middleweight School Virtual Taste Test and was awarded a Bronze medal.
In the trade steeror heifer competition, Champion Carcase went to a Simmental cross Angus bred by the Fitzgerald family, Nundle NSW and exhibited by Calrossy Anglican School.
