Angus Australia is pleased to announce that a series of research selection indexes are now available on Angus animals.
The research selection indexes can be accessed from the Angus Database Search facility, available via the Angus Australia website, and have been developed for industry review and feedback prior to potential implementation in the TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation.
To familiarise Angus breeders with the research selection indexes, a number of educational opportunities are available.
Angus Education Centre
Comprehensive information regarding the research selection indexes is available from a new module in the Angus Education Centre.
The module provides a range of information, including a detailed overview of each research selection index, an insight into how the research selection indexes have been calculated, and a summary of the process that will be followed to collect feedback on the research selection indexes.
Angus CONNECT – Introducing the New Angus Research Selection Indexes
To introduce the research selection indexes to Angus breeders, a special Angus CONNECT presentation was recently delivered via the Angus Australia YouTube channel.
The Angus CONNECT event featured a dynamic series of presentations from staff at the Animal Genetics & Breeding Unit (AGBU) and Angus Australia outlining the new research selection indexes, along with a series of educational sessions discussing the role selection indexes play in livestock breeding, the software used to calculate selection indexes, and the effective utilisation of selection indexes in animal selection.
