The second form of tissue sample that Angus Australia accepts is Other Tissue – such as tail and ear tissue.
Other tissue samples not collected using a tissue sampling unit (TSU) are only taken in situations where it is NOT possible to collect any other form of DNA sample.
Most commonly, this is when calves that are born dead, in herds which normally take hair samples for DNA testing.
As with semen and TSUs, it is not possible to store the surplus tissue sample for future DNA testing of the animal, and so DNA needs to be extracted and stored at the laboratory.
A surcharge may apply when submitting tissue samples for DNA testing, refer to the current fees for DNA services for further details.
