Other Tissue: Collection and Storage Guidelines
To collect a tissue sample from the ear for DNA testing;
- Identify the ear of the deceased animal
- With a pair of shears, cut across the ear to remove a section from the tip, 1 inch from the end
- Place the piece in a zip lock bag and then within a second zip lock bag
- The sample should then be placed in a freezer until frozen
- When shipping, attach the bagged frozen sample to a cool pack, and then mail in a suitable package, such as a small styrofoam esky. Samples of this kind require shipping to Angus Australia via registered express post, or via courier for next day delivery.

- If the ears of the animal are not present, a sample can be taken from the tail of the animal. Identify the tail of the deceased animal
- With a pair of shears, cut across the tail to remove a section from the tip, 1 inch from the end.
Cut off any hair from the switch of the tail
- Place the piece in a zip lock bag and then within a second zip lock bag
- The sample should then be placed in a freezer until frozen
