GenAngus Class of 2021

Angus Youth and GenAngus Future Leaders Program partner, farm insurer, Achmea Australia, are pleased to announce that ten people have been selected to take part in the 2021 GenAngus Future Leaders Program.

Amber Clarke, Angus Pilmore, Chris Metcalf, Dayna Grey, Edwina Hall, Jamie Pepper, Jasmine Green, Liam Mowbray, Rebecca George and Tim Finger have all been selected to take part in the 2021 program, which is designed to aid them in increasing their knowledge and confidence to launch a new or existing beef enterprise.

The program, which was originally to take place in person in Adelaide, SA will take place via online webinars November 2-4, 2021. 

The 2020 program is as follows:

We are pleased to also confirm successful applicants from the cancelled 2020 GenAngus Future Leaders Program  will also be awarded their position during the 2021 event.  Katie Fisher, Rebecca Rundell, Samuel Finlayson, Lachlan Woods, Hugh McKay, Ellenor Nixon, Brenton Sessions, Alkira Riley, Damien Thomson and Brodie Collins.

Amber Clark

My name is Amber and I am from the area of Kempsey on the Midnorth coast. Originally from Tasmania, my family moved to Kempsey in 2011. In 2014 I studied a Bachelor of Agriculture at UNE, competed in the ICMJ in 2016 and studied in Cambodia for 2 weeks. I graduated in 2017, began working in the Feedlot industry and in 2018 I worked in the education industry as a Agriculture TA. In 2019 I competed in the Angus Youth Roundup where I was awarded the Merridale Aspiring Breeder Award, winning my first stud heifer. In 2019 I won a scholarship from Angus Australia to attend the Live Assessment Course and now I am a proud full time Mother to a 1 year old boy. I currently work on a local dairy farm a few afternoons a week which has given me a great opportunity to learn all things nutrition, pasture management and breeding. However, angus has been in the family for many years and now we aim to breed our own line with sustainability and performance in mind. This is the beginning of a very exciting future for me and my family.

Angus Pilmore

“I have grown up in South-East SA and my family managed a variety of different livestock operations, which allowed for a diverse upbringing in agriculture. At High School, I was lucky enough to have some inspirational role models who founded my passion for the beef industry. I spent some time in the show ring and I’ve been lucky enough to work at some progressive beef operations since. In 2019, my love for livestock & horses lead me to study Veterinary Science at CSU in Wagga. I have particular interests in seedstock cattle, business improvement, livestock reproduction and management.”

Chris Metcalfe

I’m a third generation farmer based in Manypeaks on the South Coast of WA. Farming alongside my parents and brother we run approximately 1,500 breeding cows and 2,500 ewes over 4000 ha. Our cattle enterprise includes the Koojan Hills Angus stud, Melaleuca Murray Grey stud and an 800 head commercial herd which consists of a mix of Angus and Murray Greys. We aim to grow out the majority of our young commercial cattle and primarily supply grass-fed finished cattle to Woolworths. We mate our Dohne ewe flock to White Suffolk rams targeting the prime lamb market.

Dayna Grey

Raised in the North-West of Tasmania on a small beef cattle property, I ventured across the water to Geelong, completing a Bachelor of Business (Agribusiness) at Marcus Oldham before accepting a position with Thomas Foods International, in a mixed role of supply chain and marketing management. In February this year, I commenced a Livestock Pregnancy Scanning business initially working on weekends. In July I took the pregnancy scanning business full time and haven’t looked back.

Edwina Hall

Edwina Hall is a third-generation beef farmer from Flinders Island, TAS. Edwina works alongside her parents on their family property ‘Four Winds’, where they will mate 2,500 breeding females this spring. Edwina has ownership of her own Angus herd consisting of 85 breeders. Edwina is currently studying a Bachelor of Agriculture through Charles Sturt University (Wagga Wagga), while continuing to work full-time. Edwina has a strong passion for soil science and pasture agronomy. In early 2021, Edwina and her partner Brett purchased their first property, being a 200ha development block. Edwina sees a growing importance for education within the agriculture industry and has a strong desire to use her gained knowledge to ensure business success.

Jamie Pepper

Jamie Pepper is a fourth-generation farmer at Tahara, western Victoria and has been involved in the agricultural industry for all of his working life. He takes a proactive interest in animal health and sustainable farming.

Jamie is a newcomer to the Angus breed, buying his first 19 heifers last year. He sees an enormous potential with Angus cattle and hopes to build his herd, by making smart genetic choices when selecting semen or buying bulls.

Jamie is looking forward to the challenge this new enterprise offers and wants to gather information to help inform decision making to grow his herd.

Liam Mowbray

Liam is a young beef cattle producer from Barrington. He has been building an Angus cow-calf operation over the past 6 years with both registered and commercial branches. Liam is also a Veterinarian working in the farming community of Gloucester. Naturally, he has a passion for cattle medicine, nutrition and reproduction! During recent years Liam has been involved in meat judging, BRD research and trialing innovative FTAI synchronisation programs. He enjoys rugby, archery, and spending time living and working with the land.

Jasmine Green

I grew up on a commercial Angus operation herd and was heavily involved in the Angus Youth program as a junior. I spent 6 months working on a large seed-stock operation in the USA before completing a Livestock Science degree at UNE. Together with my family we run a small registered Angus herd at Merryvale in the NSW Southern Tablelands. My husband Hayden & I also run our own seed-stock business – Summit Livestock, raising registered Limousin cattle in the Riverina. I currently work for Teys Australia as part of the Livestock procurement team, based at their Wagga beef processing plant.

As we continue to grow our family business, I am looking forward to the opportunity to participate in the GenAngus program to help build my business knowledge and skills as well as meet and work with other like-minded young cattle breeders.

Rebecca George

My name is Rebecca George & I’m a 4th generation farmer from Central West NSW. I am 24 years old & recently completed a double degree in Bachelor of Agriculture/ Bachelor of Business through the University of New England. I majored in International Business & I am passionate about travelling & experiencing international agriculture. My family farm is a mixed enterprise operation comprised of dry land broad acre cropping, white dorper meat sheep & Angus beef cattle. I work very closely with my family on our property & the business employs me part time. I also work part time as a veterinary assistant/ nurse at our local clinic.

Tim Finger

Hi my name is Tim Finger, I’m 26 and I’m from Mansfield, Victoria. I’m a 3rd generation beef farmer who is currently working as the farm manager on my family-owned Angus Stud, Riga Angus. I graduated with a Bachelor of Business (Agriculture) from Marcus Oldham College in 2019 which taught me valuable skills of not only the business side of farm management but also the practical side too. Working with my family to run our stud is my passion and I hope by being involved with the Gen-Angus Future Leaders Program I’ll able to learn skills which will help me to become not only a better leader within the business but also the greater Angus Australia community. When I get time off work I enjoy catching up with friends, riding horses and going on adventures with my partner and our two border collies.
