We are excited about the line up of presenters that we have planned for our participants and we will list just a few here to give you a taste of what to expect

Alan Deacon, ACHMEA AUSTRALIA – ‘Risk and Liability’

Allan Deacon is the Business Development Manager for Achmea Australia. Across a deep and rich history spanning over twenty years, Allan has worked in agricultural insurance with major insurers, brokers and clients. Allan has also worked on properties in Quirindi NSW and was also the manager of a country branch for a major broker in Tamworth, NSW. Allan spends his spare time playing golf, mowing his 5 acre block and shuttling his three boys between their numerous rugby commitments. Allan is committed to keeping farmers farming through Achmea’s insurance solutions





Tom Maguire, TEYS AUSTRALIA – ‘Supply Chain, Finding your market’

Tom Maguire is the Chief Value Chain Officer with Teys Australia, a 50/50 joint venture between the Teys family and Cargill. Teys Australia is a substantial part of Australia’s beef industry, operating six beef processing plants, three cattle feedlots as well as other businesses in the value chain located across Australia’s eastern seaboard. Tom has been involved in the Australian meat industry since 1997.  Tom holds post graduate qualifications in Economics, Industrial Relations and Human Resource Management.  He has also completed a Master in Business. Tom believes Australian agriculture has a bright future if it is able to adapt in response to global megatrends and resulting changes in customer and consumer requirements.





Isobel Knight, PROAGTIVE – ‘Succession’

Isobel Knight is a succession planning specialist and has been the owner and a director of Australia’s leading family farm succession planning business Proagtive for the last decade. Isobel is a mother of three has degrees in business law and psychology, is a trained counselor and mediator.

Isobel was awarded the 2013 NSW-ACT Rural Industries Research & Development Corporation (RIRDC) Rural Women’s Award and National Runner up. Isobel’s association with family farm businesses stems backs to her family’s farm near Junee and now Loomberah NSW where she and her husband Rod run a cattle-trading enterprise. Being part of two family farms and experiencing firsthand the challenges of planning for the future has been the catalyst for Isobel’s interest in farm succession planning.

Isobel’s passion is to ensure that the next generation has an opportunity to participate in agriculture and believes a lack of succession planning is costing farming families, rural communities and agriculture dearly. Isobel has worked closely with hundreds of individual farming families. This remarkable level of training and experience sets Isobel apart from anyone else in the field of succession planning.

Steven Mirtschin, PROAGTIVE – ‘Succession’

Steven Mirtschin has extensive business and professional experience including over 10 years as a former Agribusiness Bank Manager for a major Bank. Steven has a degree in Agricultural Science and now operates businesses on behalf of his family.

Steven grew up on his family farm on the Darling Downs, Queensland, which is still owned and operated by other members of his family. Steven now lives near Canberra with his wife Joanne and their two children.Steven’s aim is to deliver strategic thinking, tailored advice and integrated solutions for family businesses and agricultural enterprises.





Pete Clark, 21 Whispers – ‘Mindset’

Pete Clarke specialises in leadership alignment and executive facilitation. He provides mindset and behavioural coaching and facilitation to teams and individuals to help them accelerate the achievement of strategic objectives and drive business  performance.

Pete spent 16 years with full service training provider rogenSi leading the leadership and mindset practice within APAC. His role included business development and facilitating C Suite Executives and their leadership teams. He has engaged with individual executives at the Partner/Director level for the last 10 years and adopts a philosophy looking to uncover the helpful and hindering beliefs and mindsets that will accelerate performance.

Pete holds a Bachelor of Education (Hons) 2:1 from Carnegie College in Leeds. He holds qualifications in a variety of coaching and personal development methodologies. Pete is a  master facilitator of emotional intelligence and the Extraordinary Performer performance diagnostic tool, as well as being a master trainer and facilitator in the Extraordinary Leader leadership diagnostic tool

His C suite clients include: Achmea, NAB, CBA, KPMG, ANZ, Lion, Mine Super and Zurich.

David Brown, HOLMES & SACKETT – ‘Beef Bench Marking’

David was born and raised on a progressive sheep station in North West NSW. From an early age he has been working in the family business, and more recently, David has traveled the world working on farms in various countries. In 2010, David moved to Wagga to join the Holmes Sackett team as a consultant. He has completed a PhD in Rural Science, through the University of New England, culminating in the publication of four peer review journal articles, one short conference paper and a thesis manuscript titled ‘In-paddock walk-over weighing: understanding the factors affecting its potential for the Australian sheep industry’.

Diana Wood, Marketing and Communications Manager Angus Australia – Marketing your Product

The Angus breed is in Diana’s blood, she grew up on parents property at Coonamble NSW where Outwest Angus has been run since its inception in 1989. Diana’s grandfather is a life member of Angus Australia.

Diana is a product of the Angus Youth program having been an Angus Youth Ambassador in 2002 and involved in the Angus Youth Management Committee in subsequent years. In 2004, Diana won the Angus Youth National Judging Competition and subsequently studied at the University of Illinois in 2005 on a scholarship as the award for winning that competition.

Diana has completed a Bachelor of Economics with a Marketing Major at the University of Sydney and has worked as a Marketing and Administration Assistant at the Balmain Leagues Club, as a TACE processor at ABRI, Executive Office at Murray Grey Beef Cattle Society, Marketing Assistant and Marketing & Communications Manager at Angus Australia.

Given her involvement in the Angus Youth program, Diana has a passion for supporting youth in agriculture and believes it is integral for the up and coming stars of the beef industry to be provided access to the tools which can help them succeed, in particular in the areas of marketing and communications.
