The ANGUS NSW Breeders Seminar, held at the Orange Ex Services Club on June 7, 2024, was a resounding success, bringing together breeders, industry experts, and Angus enthusiasts for a day of learning and networking. Mr Matthew Macri the Chair of Angus NSW stated the event, aimed at enhancing the knowledge base and engagement of NSW commercial members within the Angus breeding community, it featured a packed agenda of informative sessions and interactive activities.

The day began with registration and afternoon tea, providing attendees with an opportunity to mingle and settle in. The first session commenced at 2 pm with a series of compelling presentations. Scott Wright of Angus Australia laid out the organisation’s ambitious 5-year plan, emphasising strategic initiatives designed to propel the Angus breed forward. Ed Hordern from Vytelle IVF followed with insights into advanced reproductive technologies, showcasing how these innovations are revolutionising Angus breeding practices. Mr Lachlan Ayoub from Zoetis presented the Immune Ready Guidelines and initiatives that help Maximise productivity and minimise disease transfer through the supply chain. Dr Gerard Hammond from Angus Tech concluded the session with a deep dive into the latest technological advancements in the field, highlighting tools and techniques that are transforming the industry.

After a short break, the seminar resumed with the second session. Dr Kristen Fredericksen presented, the bull breeding soundness evaluation and 3-day sickness management. Nancy Crawshaw from Angus Australia presented A guide to establishing a breeding objective and production performance. Mr Scott Wright returned to the stage to share key objectives of the 2025 Neogen World Angus Forum, providing a global perspective on trends and developments in Angus breeding.

The formal seminar concluded at 5:30 pm, transitioning into a networking drinks and dinner. This informal gathering allowed participants to exchange ideas, establish new connections, and reinforce existing relationships within the community.

The seminar extended into the next day with exclusive farm tours. Participants visited Dalwhinnie Angus where host Dean and family provided an in-depth tour and morning tea. The journey continued to Gilmandyke Pastoral hosted by Wade and staff, featuring a comprehensive tour, lunch. Dalwhinnie had cows, working bulls and sale bulls on display and Gilmandyke had first calf heifers and U bulls on display. Mr Tim Lord, Vice Chair Angus NSW thanked the hosts for opening their farms to members and their hospitality.

The ANGUS NSW Breeders Seminar was a remarkable event, fostering knowledge sharing, community building, and celebrating the achievements within the Angus breeding industry. Attendees left with a renewed sense of purpose, armed with new insights and connections to drive the future of Angus breeding in Australia.
