Meet the Team Members

Lucie Svobodová

Lucie Svobodová hails from a bustling city in the Czech Republic, yet her heart beats for the countryside, horses, and cows. Lucie began showing dairy cattle during her high school years and later transitioned to beef cattle. Her educational background in agribusiness at high school was further enriched by a month-long training stint with heifers on a farm in England. Currently, Lucie is specialising in animal science at the University of České Budějovice. She aspires to build a career in cattle breeding consultancy, focusing on nutrition and reproduction. Lucie is committed to working hard to achieve success both in the field and in her life.

Kirsten Devery

Kirsten Devery is from Tuatapere, NZ and has recently returned there after completing her Bachelor of Commerce in Agriculture at Lincoln University, graduating in May. Kirsten has always had a strong passion for Angus cattle, nurtured by her parents’ Pikoburn Angus farming operations. She enjoys the genetic aspects of cattle breeding and has attended various bull sales to explore the available options. Her participation in the Southern Ward Tour last year led her to join Generation Angus. Kirsten is eager to be part of the Barbarians team at the World Angus Forum, looking forward to every opportunity that comes her way.

Importance of Youth Competitions in Agriculture

Youth competitions like the Zoetis Angus Youth Competition play a crucial role in the agricultural industry. They equip the younger generation with practical skills and provide an excellent platform for networking and learning. Participants gain insights into best practises in animal breeding, farm management, and genetic advancements. Additionally, such competitions foster a sense of community and encourage the sharing of innovative ideas aimed at addressing challenges within the sector.

The Barbarians Universal Team’s participation signifies a broader commitment to the future of the Angus breed. By involving young, passionate individuals from diverse backgrounds, the competition ensures the infusion of fresh ideas and contemporary practises into the industry. This initiative not only supports the current breeding community but also ensures the sustainability and growth of the Angus breed for generations to come.
