The journey is only beginning at maturity
Whilst maturity is the final window in the animal’s performance recording journey, it doesn’t have to be the end of the value they can deliver to your EBVs.
Are you submitting all possible data for 12-18 months?
Angus Australia has a number of informative resources available that give support to Members in the collection of performance recording information from 12-18 months. These traits are often critical to many breeding programs and by collecting the trait Members get more informed EBVs which benefits them and their clients breeding program.
Traits Collected at 12-18 Months
By 12 months we have reached the busiest time for performance recording or alternatively the greatest opportunity, to add to the value of the EBVs calculated for our breeding program.
Don’t miss the docility window?
If temperament is important to you or your clients then submitting docility scores is a great way to gain the value from the EBV. Importantly the Docility EBV will only be calculated for animals that have a docility score included in the TACE analysis.
Traits Collected at Weaning
By weaning the calves’ performance recording journey is well underway. There are two traits to collect during this window 200 day weights and docility scores.

Traits Collected at Birth
Birth is where an animal’s performance recording journey begins, over the first couple days of an animal’s life there is the opportunity to collect birth weight, gestation length and calving difficulty scores.
Getting the value from Estimated Breeding Values
Making more informed breeding decisions is crucial to any breeding program and by contributing performance information, Members are adding to the value of the EBVs for them and their clients.
Research Selection Indexes
The research selection indexes have been developed for industry review and feedback prior to potential implementation into the TransTasman Angus Cattle Evaluation. Updates have been made to the selection indexes to ensure they continue to represent more scenarios and parameters and utilise the most current analysis tools.
