In May 2024, Angus Genetics Inc. (AGI), which is a subsidiary of the American Angus Association, made routine annual updates and significant enhancements to their genetic evaluations. Listed below are the main enhancements made to the World Angus Evaluation.

  1. Addition of sire report percentile values and breed averages.
  2. Update to model used and its genetic parameters (heritability and genetic correlations) for Carcass weight, ribeye area and fat.
  3. Genomics core update, which is related to how the genetic evaluation calculates genomic relationships.

For further information on the updates and enhancements made by AGI, please read the article – Angus Sire Evaluation Report updates implemented in May.

Further, to assist with usability and benchmarking, percentile values have been added to the World Angus Evaluation search facility. The percentiles reported in the WAE are based on the American Angus Association’s Sire percentile table

As a reminder, the sires included on the WAE search tool are updated quarterly (March, June, September, and December), but as data from all 3 countries flow into the analysis routinely, the EPDs of sires will be updated weekly.

The requirements for a sire to appear in the search facility are:

  1. Weaning weight BIF accuracy of at least 0.45
  2. 5 or more progeny with weaning weight records
  3. Have produced 2 or more calves included in the herd book in the last 2 years.
