The University of Illinois Scholarship – now open

The University of Illinois allows a young beef cattle enthusiast the chance to study at one of the best agricultural university’s in the USA.

Beef cattle are a key focus of with state-of-the-art research facilities at the University of Illinois. With brilliant teaching facilities and staff, the university offers an exceptional learning environment.

Sponsored by the Angus Australia Foundation, the University of Illinois Scholarship provides an Angus Australia member aged between 21 and 30 years old the opportunity to study at the University of Illinois for one semester (US spring semester, January through to April/May).

The scholarship is open to any young beef cattle enthusiast who is a member of Angus Australia wanting to increase their knowledge of all facets of the beef industry.

Not only does this scholarship represent a once in a lifetime opportunity for the recipient, it provides the recipient with $10,000 to cover the costs of attending the University of Illinois, as well as a variety of Angus Australia promotional clothing.

Whilst in the USA, the recipient will experience a whirlwind of events, from university classes, judging competitions and sightseeing around the USA whenever they can.


The aim of this scholarship is to:
  • Increase the recipient’s knowledge of the beef industry
  • Expose the recipient to different agricultural production systems
  • Develop the recipient’s personal skills
  • Strengthen relationships between the Australian and USA beef industries
  • Applicants must be aged between 21 and 30 years of age (age at 1st January 2019)
  • Applicants must be members of Angus Youth and/or Angus Australia (membership form may be completed with application)
  • Please note that an affiliation with the Angus breed or previous university study is not a requirement to apply. However previous Judging experience is required
How to Apply

To apply for this scholarship applicants must compete application questions and submit judging performance record for the past 3 to 5 years and resume.  Applications will be reviewed and shortlisted to be interview.


Conditions of winning the Scholarship
  • The scholarship cannot be deferred, it must be taken up in the spring semester (Commencing in January)
  • Whilst at University of Illinois the recipient must keep a blog. This is to be updated at least weekly
  • Upon returning from the scholarship the recipient must make themselves available to give a presentation at an assigned industry event

Withing 3 weeks of returning a full written trip report must be provided to the Angus Australia Foundation.
