What you need to know for the Thomas Foods International Angus Youth Roundup 2019

With the Thomas Foods International Angus Youth Roundup nearing closer, we have put together everything you need to know for Roundup, so that you are prepared for 2019!

Where are the Armidale Showgrounds?

The Armidale Showgrounds are located on Kennedy and Dumaresq Streets, Armidale, New South Wales.  There will be signage displayed to inform participants where to park and where camping is allowed when arriving at the showgrounds.

Is there accommodation available at Roundup 2019?

As opposed to previous years, please note there will be no dorm style accommodation available at the Thomas Foods International Angus Youth National Roundup, all participants and their parent or guardians will be responsible for organising their own accommodation.  There is the option to camp at the showground, however all those camping at the grounds must be booked with the Armidale showground trust and bring your own camping equipment. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent guardian over the age of 18 years if camping.

What time does Roundup kick off?

For competitors Roundup will begin at 10.30am on Thursday the 10th of January when registrations open and conclude at approximately 2pm on Sunday the 13th of January.   For further information regarding the event schedule see the Roundup program HERE.

What you need to bring:
  • Camping equipment (if staying on grounds)
  • Toiletries
  • Towel
  • Hat & Sunscreen
  • Gumboots
  • Old set of clothes that can get dirty (barnyard olympics gets messy!)
  • 3 changes of clothes for every day wear
  • Good clothes for the SDD (smart casual dress code)
    – for example; collared shirt, jeans/moleskins and optional tie for boys
    – for example; dress, skirt or nice pants and shirt for girls
  • Pyjamas
  • Boots & cleaning gear
  • Wet weather gear
For those with ballot cattle:

For those who are donating or bringing ballot cattle for the event, the arrival time is the morning of Thursday 10th January, however if you are traveling long distances and need to arrive earlier please contact Eliza Borchardt (0408 209 803) for alternate options.  At the conclusion of the event cattle can leave the showground after 2pm on Sunday 13th January. Alternatively, it is also possible to stay Sunday night and head off Monday morning, please contact Eliza Borchardt. For more information.

  • Feed tubs
  • Cattle Feed
  • Rake, shovel, pitchfork
  • Halters and Leads
  • Nose Clips and leads
  • Neck Straps
  • Leather halters
  • Show cane
  • Grooming and washing gear
  • A copy of your completed Herd Health Declaration Form
Herd Health Declaration and Pestivirus Testing:

Please ensure you have completed and returned your Herd Health Declaration (including your J-BAS score in question 6). This is important for government regulations and is necessary to confirm stalling plans. This form can be found HERE.

All animals entered in the 2019 Roundup must be tested for Pestivirus. This testing can be done through the Angus Australia Office. The costs will be approximately $20 per test. If the animal returns a negative Pestivirus test result it will then be eligible to enter the Roundup. All hair samples will need to be received at the office by no later than Friday 11th December 2018 to ensure that results are back in time. Results from samples submitted after this date, may not be available in time for the Roundup. Hair samples can be sent in on the University of Queensland collector.

Breeders can organise their own tests if they wish, however Angus Australia will need to be provided with a copy of the results.

Parents Bus Trip

The Parents Bus Trip is back for 2019, departing Armidale at 7am on Friday January 11th.  Tickets are $25 (there are some additional costs for certain activities) so for the itinerary and information about the parent’s bus trip SEE MORE.

The Special Dinner Dance:

The Special Dinner Dance is back for the Thomas Foods International Angus Youth Roundup 2019.  The dinner will consist of a two course sit down meal, live and silent auction to raise funds for Angus Youth followed by entertainment late into the night.  The Special Dinner Dance will be held at the Armidale Ex-Services Club from 6.30pm for a 7pm start running until late on Saturday 12th January.  The dress code for the night is smart casual.

The price of the dinner is $25 per child and $50 per adult (Special Dinner Dance ticket included in registered participants entry fee). Any specific allergies or dietary requirements must be made known in advance to the event.  To ensure your place at the night, book early by emailing youth@angusaustralia.com.au or phoning (02) 6773 4622.
